Today in History

Well today in 1990 the Berlin Wall came tumbling down. So 14 years later there is no longer a cold war in Europe. The European Union has come around along with a common currency to bring all of the countries together. Now we are seeing countries in the former Yugoslavia, Poland, Cezch Republic, Sloviakia and all of the fomer Soviet states, catching up to the countries in the western part of the continent. Of course there are still scars. The scars from WWII are pretty much all gone. But the scars of Communism are still there and they run deep especially in eastern Europe.

Picture of the Day

A Jewish grave in the WWII Memorial graveyard in Luxemburg. The stone on top of it signifies how many times a family member has visited his grave.

Verse of the day

"Now I rejoice in what was suffered for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ's afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church."

spendin money

There's a bizarre on base this weekend. Vendors come in and sell just about anything. I bought or aquired about 12 bottles of German, French and Italion wine. And yes some of that is going to make it over to the states. I also bought a painting. It's a lake in bavaria at sunset with a mountain reflection. The painter is Artur Franke. He's a really well known German painter. I've seen some of his work before and it's beautiful. So the only way people are gonna see it is if they come over here and visit me. Now it's time to work on getting furniture around the house. I've also became friends with an Italion family around here so I will never go hungry.

Contemplation of the Day

Well I woke up this morning and I realised that I am pushing 24 in a couple of weeks. And I was thinking where has the time gone? About a year ago I was living in the states. Getting ready to embark on a journey that would take me half way across the world twice. A little over a year ago the only countries that I've been too were the Canada and obviously the U.S.. Now I can add places like Oman, Baharain, Qatar, Germany, Luxemburg, Belguim, and the Netherlands. I've seen first hand the sacrifices that are country made in WWII. I've also seen what it's like to participate in supporting bombing missions in today's version of War.
Now I feel like I've just started seeing things that I've only dreamed of seeing. Thank the Lord for all of His safty. And His goodness in giving us the freedom to travel. Well I've got to get back to supper and Dvorak's New World Symphony.
Ciao
